ANKLE DEFORMITY

Ankle deformity is the distortion of the ankle joint and is mainly of following types:

  • Talipes equinus: Ankle joint plantar flexed.
  • Talipes equino-valgus: Ankle joint plantar flexed and foot everted.
  • Talipes equino-valgus: Ankle joint plantar flexed and foot everted.
  • Talipes calcaneus: Ankle joint dorsi flexed.
  • Talipes calcaneus: Ankle joint dorsi flexed.
  • Talipes calcaneo-varus: Ankle joint dorsi flexed and foot inverted.
  • Talipes cavus: Ankle joint dorsi flexed and forefoot plantar flexed, resulting in a high longitudinal arch.

Complex foot and ankle deformity can be difficult to treat with conventional surgical approaches. External fixation with acute or gradual correction of deformities can be used to safely treat complex ankle deformity.
