Knee buckling is an unstable condition of the knee that gives a feeling of 'knee giving way' or that the knee has suddenly lost its stability.
Causes:
Knee locking is more often seen in cases of injured knee joints mainly meniscal or ligamentous injuries but certain bone and joint disorders may also contribute to it.
Symptoms:
Buckling of knee is characterized by a sensation of popping or giving way of the knee joint that makes it impossible to move and locking of the knee means the joint is fixed in one position and cannot move further. This specifically affects the weight bearing on the affected knee joint and person cannot bear weight on the affected joint.
